Love and education.
These are not words usually associated with each other, unless you are in Finland or its neighbors. In my experience, this kind of terminology scares administrators, makes parents cautious and confuses some students. But that is how I teach, with great love and care. I have been teaching since 1999 and every few years, I change schools. Each time I do, administrators try to mold me into conformity. After about a year, they realize that my odd ways are effective and they leave me alone. I have had an entire class pass a state Geometry test. That ended a string of years where my geometry pass rate improved for 5 straight years. I have taught at a low-performing school where the average pass rate in state tests were about 40%. My pass rate was about 80%. I have left a trail of satisfied parents and students. I have hundreds of positive testimonies from students.
I have come to the point in my career where I want to share these methods I have used in order to have others have the love and education success I have had. As a result, I am in the process of writing a book on education titled, I Know Your Kid Hates School But, Hey, They All Do. It is meant as catalyst of change in the way kids are educated. Would like to join my revolution? (I believe a worldwide pandemic is a perfect opportunity for a successful revolution in education, as well as other fields.)
This website is to parents for their children's education and psychological wellness. In my journey to my PhD and my work with teenagers, I have experienced many disappointments and obstacles. The first public obstacle was my public school education. It seemed that it made my personal issues worse with its perceived overall lack of care of my situation. Through my acquisition of higher and higher degrees, I have vowed to myself to make public education better than I perceived it to be. Some say it is too late but I believe we can save it, although the clock is ticking near the midnight hour. The goal of this site, and all the work I do, is to empower parents to guide their children with better routes than following the current system of compliance.
